OCW NORTH AMERICAN CHAMPIONSHIP

UNIFICATION MATCH

ANTHONY BAKER* vs. RUST COHLE*

We cut backstage. Upon a plain concrete wall hangs a poster, elegantly framed. It’s Justin Jehst in one of his earlier movies, long hair still flowing and smile still gleaming.

We pan out a bit, to see the man himself--the same, but different. His hair short, and now he stares up at the glossy image with a set jaw and steely eyes.

Justin:
… It’s been a long time.

Justin: A long time since I was dragging my bag into the locker room for the first time, a rookie given only passing glances by the beaten-down vets and other hungry newcomers roaming the halls of this company.

Justin: I was eager to jump into the sport that inspired me. I didn’t expect to go through so much…

Justin: Best friends betrayed me. Put me in the hospital. The woman I loved LEFT me because of how rough OCW was. I’ve been injured, beaten, bent… but not broken.

Justin: Sometimes I don’t know why I stay. There’s more money in movies, and someone else does the stunts and breaks the bones.

Justin: There’s more RESPECT in movies--society looks at wrestlers like most people look at birthday party clowns, except the clown is fighting a pain pill addiction and wearing a t-shirt with day-old blood on it.

Justin shakes his head.

Justin:
Now I know why the vets I passed by on my first day looked so tired. Now I know why they barely paid attention to me even when I won my first few matches. Most people don’t last in this business. Most people don’t last here.

Justin: But here I am. After all that, here I am. And you know what, Antonio Everett?

Justin: When my name is mentioned, the locker room treats it with respect. The people in the office treat it with respect. People wear my t-shirts in the audience! People chant my name, night in, night out!

Justin: You know why? Not because I’m some fresh face outta Hollywood. They didn’t DO that when I got here. Wrestling respects wrestling. The fans out there respect people who put in the work and deal with the pain! And I DO!

He turns away from the poster to face the camera, jabbing a thumb into his chest.

Justin:
You’re just looking for excuses to take me down, to write me off, to feel better about yourself and all the sh*t YOU had to do to come up in this place. But you don’t get to do that, Tony, not forever.

Justin: My name is Justin Jehst. I am an OCW wrestler. I am Hollywood Muscle. I AM coming for your title. And once the night is over, once your manufactured narrative of haves and have-nots, of street life vs Hollywood glamor falls apart, and you see the real me? You WILL treat me with the respect I deserve.
