Christian Garcia stands in front of the curtain in the interview area, his North American title over his shoulder and a weary look in his eye as he speaks.
He’s quiet, tired, and seemingly somewhat out of sorts, but his expression darkens the minute he begins to speak.
CG: Look. I’m not gonna waste time. I talk a lot, I know, but today… today, I know exactly what I have to say.
CG: Last week, I heard a little man come out here, a man I used to call my friend, and he talked his shit, so now, I’m gonna talk mine.
CG: Miguel. No one is denying what you can do. The hell you’ve put your own body through, the suffering you’ve endured, mostly deserved, but not at all fun to watch, is awe-inspiring. You have hardly rested since Mark Reese snapped you like a twig.
CG: But that’s what I was worried about. I left DDE because I recognized who our ‘friends’ were.
CG: That Ross, at the end of the day, was a scumbag no matter how much I looked up to him, that you were a scared young boy in a locker room full of grown men, and I was a misguided, lost, rambling man, and that Dennis Dillinger had us all by the balls and was dosing you up so you could keep making him money.
CG: And I didn’t want to hurt you, Miguel. You were my friend. You were the first person in this company to approach me not as a ‘rookie’, not as competition… but as an equal.
CG: So I’m going to give it to you straight, amigo. I’m going to tell you what I’ve been telling these fans since Chaos Theory: I AM, WHAT I SAY, I AM.
He takes the title off of his shoulder, letting it hang out of his hand off camera as he addresses the man on the other side of the screen.
CG: And I’m going to tell you what that is.
CG: I’m not a good person, Miguel. You know that. I’ve got a short fuse. I’m always looking over my shoulder. I don’t trust anybody, and I trust myself even less.
CG: I’d rather elbow you in the mouth than shake your hand, and that I told every single one of you that I had before I walked into that ring with Chris Greene all those Turmoils ago, that I enjoy inflicting pain. I don’t get in there and brawl just because I’m good at it, I love that shit.
CG: That Scum City Deathmatch was the best I’ve felt in years.
CG: And we’re not getting that deathmatch, Miguel, because I don’t want to hurt you. You’re my friend, whether you believe that or not.
CG: And everything I’ve said, everything I’ve done, to Dennis, to Jesus, to everybody else, all of that was me trying to help you.
CG: Miguel. You’re still that scared little boy underneath that mask, I can see it in your eyes when you look at that camera, when you look at me.
CG: I see the pain. I see the fear. I see the insecurity, the doubts. I’m not gonna get rid of that for you. I’m not gonna sit there like your daddy and talk you through it.
CG: I may not be your father, Miguel, but when I’m standing over your broken body and holding up my North American title, your dreams of a Grand Slam shattered at my feet, you're gonna know who your daddy is.
