OCWFED.com Presents TURMOIL

Previously Recorded

The scene opens in Valkyrie’s apartment.

It's well past midnight and she looks like she just woke up startled and distressed.

She reaches out for her smartphone and calls the only person in the world who's allowed to call her by her real name.

???: Sarah? What's wrong?

Valkyrie: I had another one of those nightmares.

There's a brief moment of silence.

Valkyrie: I'm sorry I'm calling you in the middle of the night but I have to talk about it with someone

???: It's not night time here. I live in Europe now, remember? It's 7am.

Valkyrie: Right.

There's another awkward pause.

???:
 I'm listening.

Valkyrie: I was in this huge battlefield… it looked like one of those medieval sieges you see in the movies.

Valkyrie: I was leading an army of people who looked like me, dressed like me and kept saying the lines I use in my promos over and over again.

???: I wonder who they were…

Valkyrie: I know damn well who they were. But that's not the point.

Valkyrie: When I reached the castle, I turned to see if the army was following me but instead they were just standing there, doing nothing.

Valkyrie: I swear some of them were literally men with wigs.

???: Where have I seen this scene before, huh?

Valkyrie: I couldn't care less about them. I was willing to conquer the entire castle all by myself if I had to.

???: Vintage Valkyrie

Valkyrie: Hell yeah. So I stormed inside the castle, blasting through the enemies. I couldn't tell right away who they were, but I'm pretty sure they were Kasstians in my subconscious.

Valkyrie: Anyway, I made my way to the throne room and they were both there: Heather and Kassidy.

???: Go on.

Valkyrie: I drew my sword. I was ready to decapitate both of them.

Valkyrie: Heather stood up from her throne and faced me in a duel, while Kass was simply laughing on his throne.

Valkyrie: We fought for what seemed to be an eternity. I thought I had her in the end but then, just as I was about to strike the final blow…

Valkyrie pauses.

???: What happened?

Valkyrie: Heather turned into a demon.

???: A demon?

Valkyrie: Yes. A literal demon, with wings, tail and all of that stuff.

Valkyrie: She disarmed me with ease, grabbed me and…

Valkyrie: ...and then I woke up.

There's a good minute of silence.

???:
It's just wrestling, Sarah. Heather is not an actual demon.

Valkyrie: I know… but what if what she says it's true? She said I woke up her inner spirit, Furiosa.

???: …

Valkyrie: I really wish you were here with me right now. I…

Her voice is trembling. She sounds like she's about to start crying

Valkyrie:
I need you with me. I can't do this by myself, I can't…

???: How can I be there with you? I don't even exist anymore.

Her friend hangs up. Valkyrie stares silently at her phone in disbelief, then the camera fades to black

We cut to Cort Marshall standing outside of a door somewhere backstage. He’s more cleaned up this time, wearing regular street clothes--save for a small bandage on the side of his head where Shepherd blasted him with the belt.

He looks up to read the message on the door: “Our Hero’s Office, get an appointment or LEAVE ME IN PEACE!”

Cort shrugs and knocks anyway. Our Hero’s voice emanates from behind the door.

Sensation:
Finally, someone in this company who KNOCKS! You have an appointment?

Cort: … No.

We hear a muffled sigh.

Sensation:
Well, one outta two ain’t bad. Come in, but don’t waste my time!

Cort lets himself in and walks up to the desk. Sensation looks up, expression unreadable.

Sensation:
 Oh, it’s you.

Cort: And you know what I’m here for. I want Shepherd at Devil’s Night. Extreme Rules. I’ll put the title on the line, whatever I need to do. As long as I get my hands on him.

The boss rummages around in his desk for the applicable forms.

Sensation:
I won’t say no. But I will ask if you’re sure. You’re doing exactly what he wants you to do. Over my years in charge of this company I’ve seen a thousand stories like yours end... and they didn’t end happy. So I’ll ask again… are you sure?

Cort: You know I am.

Sensation sighs again.

Sensation:
 Okay. Your funeral.

He pushes the paper over to Cort and hands him a pen to sign with. Cort does so, each signature scrawled with a little more force than necessary.

Cort:
 Or his.

He turns around to leave, but as he reaches the door, Sensation adds one last thing:

Sensation:
 Good luck out there.

Cort nods.

Cort:
 I appreciate it.

Cort walks out the door and closes it, leaving the camera to settle on Sensation’s pensive expression before fading out.
