GRUDGE MATCH
MARISA WELCH
vs.
EVELYN PARKER
As we fade into the scene we see a sign that reads “Blue Line”. The sound of a train is coming to a stop in the background.
Normally we see many people storming the doors to try to get a seat but not in these times in Chicago, Illinois. The camera pans down and we see Heather Angleo entering the train with just a gym bag.
Her disposition is stoic. She holds one hand on a rail and the other holds her gym back over her shoulder. She looks down towards one side of the car then the opposite.
No one notices her. An well known OCW wrestler taking public transportation and not a single person says, “Hi.”
Heather: Just like New York.
Heather whispers to herself. As the train pulls off she looks out the window and notices life passing her before her eyes.
Memories of Harvey, Valkyrie, Bunny D, Kassidy, Empress and even one of the former OCW Women’s Chet-pion.
She remembers each and failure she has ever had in her 3 year career. She was even forgotten in the first ever Ladies Night.
At least not this time.
Child: Would you like to sit down ma’am?
The little boy looked at his mother and he stood up offering Heather a seat. Heather chuckles.
Heather: Muy dulce, that’s so sweet. No that’s ok. I think my stop is coming up next.
Mother: My son says you’re Heather Angleo. You’re a fighter in OCW correct?
Heather: A wrestler. I don’t box. At least not anymore.
Heather laughs it off. But the mother has a very serious look on her face.
Mother: I don’t watch wrestling with my son. But I know a fighter when I see one. I see nothing but pain in you the moment you stepped foot in this train.
Mother: You’re fighting tonight. So go out there and deliver all the pain you have suffered in your life. Leave it all out there so you can be free darling.
”Next stop United Center” can be heard over the PA System.
Heather: Thank you, señiora. Oh wait.
Before the train stops, Heather sits next to the mother and pulls out a picture in her gym bag. It’s a personal photo of her and H2O. She scurries through her bag to find something to write with.
She signs the back of it with her signature and gives it to her son.
Child: Oh cool! Thank you Heather! I got a picture of The Beast and H2O Mom! No one else will have this picture!
Mother: You sure you want to give that away hun?
Heather: You said to start fresh, right? So why not start by giving away something meaningful from my past to my first fans!
The mother smiles as Heather gets up and heads towards the doorway.
Mother: Good luck out there….Beast. I’ll make it a point to watch the first ever uh Women’s Chamber? I think that’s what it’s called.
Child: Yes, mom!
Heather: Thank you.
For the first time in a long time Heather cracks a smile and heads towards the arena.
